Saturday 6:30-9:15

Ohio State at Penn State, 7:30 p.m. EST, ABC

After the lull in the afternoon, the late slate this weekend is awesome, and this is the best game on paper for the whole day. It’s a top ten matchup, it’s the College Gameday game of the week, and it’s being played in Happy Valley, the best place in the country to host a primetime game. Both teams seem to be very good, though Ohio State feels like the better team, and it should be an awesome showcase of talent.

One sentence sell: If you’re looking for a Heisman moment, and a spectacle, look no further, because Dwayne Haskins and Trace McSorley could both have huge games against shaky defenses.

Stanford at Notre Dame, 7:30 p.m. EST, NBC

If Ohio State-Penn State is the primary game you put up on the main screen, this is an excellent laptop game. Stanford is fresh off their huge come from behind win against Oregon, and Notre Dame just crushed Wake Forest after changing their starting quarterback from Brandon Wimbush to Ian Book. Two good defenses, two intriguing offenses, this should be a lot of fun.

One sentence sell: It isn’t quite the spectacle of a night game at Penn State, but a night game at Notre Dame, with those golden helmets, is always just delightful to watch.

BYU at Washington, 8:30 p.m. EST, FOX

While it’s not as good as either of the two games mentioned earlier in this slot, this is still a super interesting game, with the potential for an upset. BYU’s defense is great, and they seem to be legitimately pretty good. Washington is, well, Washington. We know what they are, and with Jake Browning at the helm, they’ll likely score exactly 24 points. Can BYU top that?

One sentence sell: A west coast defensive battle starting at a time when you can watch it without staying up until 3 a.m. should be able to sell itself.

Ole Miss at LSU, 9:15 p.m. EST, ESPN

I have no idea why this pretty run of the mill SEC game is being played at 9:15, but I’m not really going to question it too much. Ole Miss’ offense against LSU’s defense should be a lot of fun, and as long as you absolutely don’t watch LSU’s offense struggle and thrash against what is essentially air in Ole Miss’ defense, this will be a good game to watch.

One sentence sell: Don’t watch the whole thing, but catching the end of this game once the primetime games end and as the Pac-12 after dark games are starting, this will be right around the third quarter, which is perfect.
