Miami Football: 3 Takeaways from the rout of North Carolina, 47-10
By Shelbie Warr
North Carolina headed to “The U” looking to push Miami football off its high horse. That isn’t exactly how this one turned out for the Tar Heels.
When I settled on my couch to watch this one, I can’t say I expected North Carolina to hang in with the Hurricanes. However, I didn’t expect the ‘Canes defense to outscore the Heels offense. I didn’t expect Miami to put up over 30 points in the first half and I sure didn’t expect to spend my night hearing announcers spend more time talking about Clemson than about the two teams playing on the field.
On that note, let’s start talking about the two teams that actually faced off on Thursday night.
3. The Miami quarterback battle is far from over.
Miami went with redshirt freshmen N’Kosi Perry over fifth-year senior Malik Rosier. Did Perry do well? Yeah, he did. However, he wasn’t a Heisman contender or anything like that. In his first collegiate start, he had the fans of Miami on their feet and pumped up for every single play. However, it is important to note that when a defense plays as Miami’s did, it’s hard for a fan to not be excited.
My point here? Perry did well. However, Rosier also did decently well in the first four games of the season. This team has quite a bit of talent on both sides of the ball and while college football is a quarterback league, I am convinced that either of these quarterbacks could help this team make some noise the rest of this season.
The decision of who will start each week isn’t made. Don’t let anyone tell you that it is. This is a very active quarterback battle. Grab your popcorn because it is going to be a good one.
