There are no easy roads through the SEC West, something that Texas A&M football will relearn the hard way throughout the rest of 2018.

Surviving their first four weeks of the 2018 season was a major accomplishment for Texas A&M this year. Two losses to returning College Football Playoff teams isn’t all that concerning, but the road ahead isn’t much easier.

Entering the season it was expected that the Aggies could make their hay in the second half of the season after getting through the early part of the schedule in mostly one piece. Since then, teams have grown and developed and the expectations for all 14 SEC squads have morphed.

An Oct. 6 home game against Kentucky is no longer looking like a gimme after the Wildcats hot start. Anyone that takes down Florida and Mississippi State in consecutive weeks is clearly doing something right. Mark Stoops’ squad has a bonafide Heisman contender in running back Benny Snell and the defense is playing lights out.

After Kentucky comes South Carolina, who crushed Vandy in Week 4. That’s the first of three consecutive road games, all of which are projected to be losses for Texas A&M football according to ESPN’s FPI.

Closing up with LSU, a game that looked extremely winnable in August, looks a lot more daunting now. The Tigers arguably have the best resume in College Football so far, meaning that game could have some added significance for the Tigers come late November.

Outside of a cupcake game against UAB (and Arkansas, sorry Razorbacks), the Aggies’ schedule got much more daunting. No matter which way you look at it, the Aggies’ 2018 schedule is shaping up to be one of the more challenging in college football. The only, clicked way to approach it is simple: take it one step at a time.
