3. Jawon Pass and Malik Cunningham combine to throw four picks

Not only has the quarterback play for Louisville been bad, the Cardinals have already had to bench Lamar Jackson’s presumed successor. Jawon Pass dominated the headlines during the spring and had plenty of hype entering the Cardinals’ opening week game against Alabama.

His struggles against the Tide are forgivable; he threw two garbage-time touchdowns with his team trailing by 35 points in the second half. What’s can’t be ignored is his abysmal outings against Indiana State and Virginia. Pass combined to throw for 202 yards and two interceptions with no touchdowns in those games. That’s part of the reason head coach Bobby Petrino went to the bench against Western Kentucky, starting Malik Cunningham instead.

It doesn’t matter who’s throwing the ball on Saturday. The lack of reliable pass catchers combined with a still staunch Florida State defense will make for another tough day at the office for Louisville quarterbacks. The struggles of one will lead to the insertion of the other, but neither are going to be able to find much, if any success against a Florida State secondary that has held its own early on this season.
