RBs fill the Top-10

While Baker Mayfield from Oklahoma came out on top in the 2017 Heisman Trophy voting, running backs filled the Top-10.

Bryce Love of Stanford was the runner-up, with Penn State’s Saquon Barkley finishing fourth, Rashaad Penny of San Diego State fifth and Jonathan Taylor from Wisconsin taking sixth. Kerryon Johnson from Auburn was ninth, as five running backs were among the Top-9 overall.

Four were in the Top-10 in 2016, with D’Onta Foreman of Texas placing the highest at eighth. Derrick Henry from Alabama won the award in 2015 and Stanford’s Christian McCaffrey was runner-up, with Leonard Fournette of LSU finishing sixth, Florida State’ Dalvin Cook placing seventh and Ezekiel Elliott from Ohio State eighth.

The Heisman committee is licking their chops at the prospects of Travis Etienne becoming a true contender. At the moment, Taylor, Kentucky’s Benny Snell and Penn State’s Miles Sanders are the only legitimate running backs you would include on a list of those possible for invites.

If Etienne can continue to produce between 160-and-200 yards per game of total offense, score on big-time plays and keep Clemson unbeaten, the sophomore will hear his name called for an invite to the event.
