Clemson Football: Evaluating the quarterback depth chart after Trevor Lawrence injury

Dabo Swinney detailed the fluidity of the quarterback situation was following midweek practices. In a meeting with local media, Swinney remarked that he had “never had so many people come up to me and tell me what a great quarterback they were in high school and middle school.”

Derion Kendrick is one of those players and figures to have a leg up on the masses if the quarterback situation at Clemson becomes even more dire. In his pinned hudl video, the jack-of-all-trades Kendrick labeled himself as a quarterback, free safety, cornerback, wide receiver and athlete.

When he was being recruited Swinney saw the No. 1 player in the state of South Carolina and was determined to get him on the field somewhere, anywhere. Kendrick found his spot at wide receiver and has three catches for 50 yards so far this season.

If it’s not Kendrick, Clemson will have reached further into their depth chart than they ever could have thought possible entering the season.  Kendrick would be the sixth option after Bryant, Lawrence, Brice, Renfrow and Batson. The two players in front of him were both walk-ons. The chances of him seeing the field are extremely small, but then again, the same was said about Brice, and here we are.
