Clemson football may have lost a key piece on Saturday afternoon as Trevor Lawrence went down with an injury. Could Kelly Bryant come back?

One game into the Trevor Lawrence era and Clemson may be backtracking. The freshman sensation was having a rough game already and was hit hard on a sliding play near the sideline in the first half in what looked to be a serious shoulder injury.

Just days before this near-upset loss to Syracuse, Kelly Bryant, the previous starter who led the Tigers to a College Football Playoff a year ago and a 16-2 record in his starts, announced his intention to transfer from the program after losing his starting job.

With Lawrence going down with an injury, freshman quarterback Chase Brice was forced into action in a game that he originally thought he’d be QB3 in.

Brice ended up getting the Tigers the comeback win, but one thing was for certain: he may not be 100 percent ready to lead the No. 3 team in the country if Lawrence is out for a while.

That begs the question, could Dabo Swinney welcome Bryant back as the starter to replace an injured Lawrence?

According to reports, Swinney has already said he’d welcome Bryant back with open arms and it was revealed during the ABC telecast that Bryant was still enrolled at Clemson. He wouldn’t need to go through a long process to come back, so if Lawrence is out for an extended period of time, Bryant could come back as the starter.

This would be one of the best comeback stories in recent college football history and a feel-good one, at that, but would Bryant consider this? That’s a different story.
