Florida State Football: Deondre Francois saves Noles from disastrous start
By Dana Becker
Francois seems confident again
Deondre Francois had some big shoes to fill when he took over as starting quarterback at Florida State in 2016, but he delivered. The Orlando native completed 235 of 400 for 3,350 yards and 20 touchdowns, adding another five rushing scores.
Most felt like the Seminoles had their quarterback of the future, but an injury last year scrapped all of that.
Francois has been working his way back into that 2016 form, and on Saturday vs. Louisville, he appeared to find it.
He completed 16 of 27 for 294 yards and a career-high four touchdowns, adding to the 352-yard passing performance last week vs. Northern Illinois. Obviously Francois needed actual game-time to get his legs and his arm back under him.
Opening with Virginia Tech in a prime-time matchup wasn’t the best of circumstances for Francois. He threw three picks in that game, but has just two since in 140 passes.
Francois will be challenged over the next several weeks with Miami, Notre Dame and Clemson on the schedule, but for now, he can enjoy this victory.
