TCU Football: 3 takeaways from win over Iowa State in Week 5
2. Shawn Robinson just needs that big play
With the graduation of Kenny Hill, Shawn Robinson knew he’d have big shoes to fill. He was replacing one of the most experienced quarterbacks in the nation and he needed to replicate his predecessor’s success under center. Through five games into his career as a starter, Robinson has been decent, but is just waiting for that ‘big’ play.
The Horned Frogs’ offense was a bit underwhelming on Saturday evening, recording just 299 total yards and 17 points, which was just enough to squeak by the Cyclones.
Without that big, breakout play, the sophomore quarterback couldn’t gain any momentum like he had in previous weeks. Like any quarterback, big plays inspire confidence and there just wasn’t any of that happening on Saturday versus Iowa State as his longest pass was just 24 yards.
The accuracy is there, the play-making ability is there, but he just needs to gain some momentum on the offensive end. This team goes as he goes.
The lack of big plays led to a 6.28 yards per attempt average for Robinson which won’t be enough to beat the big boys in the conference.
