1. These two teams have a long way to go

Before the year, Iowa State and TCU may have been considered dark-horse contenders in the Big 12. After Week 1 and even Week 2, that still seemed to be the case, but as the season wears on, it’s looking more than likely that the Horned Frogs and Cyclones both have a long way to go.

Iowa State may be a solid team in the middle of the pack, heading to a bowl game, but they look like anything but a Big 12 contender at this point. Without Kyle Kempt under center, the offense just doesn’t have much juice, even with David Montgomery surpassing the 100-yard mark on a regular basis.

As for TCU, it needs more consistency. At one moment, the Horned Frogs look good for the first half against a red-hot Ohio State team and the second half rolls around and they look lost against the Buckeyes, losing by double-digits. That barreled over into a Week 4 loss against Texas and then TCU beat Iowa State late in the game on Saturday, but did we really learn much about its ability to bounce back?

Both TCU and Iowa State may need a year or two before they’re truly considered contenders in the Big 12.
