Ehlinger gets it done

Sophomore Sam Ehlinger put himself on the field last year, helping Texas to five wins, including a victory over Missouri in the Texas Bowl. Now, with the job solely his, the Austin native is finding a rhythm.

Ehlinger has completed at least 68 percent of his passes in three games, including a season-best 29 of 36 on Saturday vs. Kansas State. It only added up to 207 yards, a season-low, but he had his fourth consecutive game without an interception.

And you know what? When Ehlinger doesn’t throw picks, Texas wins, as they are 4-0 in those last four games. He also has seven touchdowns during that time after tossing a pair of picks and two scores in the loss to Maryland in the season opener.

Ehlinger might not quite be Colt McCoy or Vince Young, but he’s just a sophomore. Give him two more years to run this offense under Tom Herman and we could be talking about Texas as national title contenders again and Ehlinger in the Heisman running.
