Texas Football: 3 takeaways from Longhorns’ win over Kansas State
By Dana Becker
K-State needs some offense
Bill Snyder hoped turning to Alex Delton would be the spark his Wildcat offense needed. It wasn’t. Delton completed 3-of-7 passes for 14 yards before being pulled for Skylar Thompson in the loss. Thompson wasn’t that much better, as he had 96 yards on 8-of-18.
Delton added 27 yards rushing, but it came on 16 carries and included a long of nine. In all, Kansas State mustered just 217 yards of total offense on the day, not even close to enough to be a contender in a conference littered with high-powered attacks.
Thompson did direct the offense to a pair of second half scoring strikes, but when they needed a big play to be made, nobody stepped up. With the ball in their possession and over seven minutes to go on the clock, Kansas State went three-and-out and Texas iced it away.
In the first half vs. the Longhorns, Texas’ running back, Tre Watson, had more passing yards than Kansas State, 21-14. Sitting at 2-3 overall and 0-2 in the league, the Wildcats must brace for Baylor, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma and TCU before hosting in-state rival Kansas in November.
