Seemingly out of nowhere, Kentucky football is 5-0 and ranked inside the Top 25 and the surprising Wildcats might just be getting started.

Kentucky is 5-0. That record isn’t all that farfetched for the UK basketball team, but an undefeated football squad in the Bluegrass state is stunning. The Wildcats have victories over Florida, Mississippi State and South Carolina, the latter of which was impressive enough to propel this team into the Top 25.

Based on their resume alone, Kentucky is more than deserving of their spot in the rankings. Heisman Trophy candidate Benny Snell Jr. has kicked off his senior season with a bang and has been instrumental in getting Kentucky to this point. Snell has churned out 639 rushing yards through their Wildcats’ first five games with eight rushing touchdowns.

Snell’s rushing total exceeds the passing yardage of quarterback Terry Wilson who has thrown for 595 yards and two touchdowns. For the most part, Wilson has guided the offense well enough, but with a back like Snell lined up behind him he hasn’t been asked to do much.

Instead, it’s been Snell and a dominant defense that have paved the way for Kentucky’s impressive start.  Central Michigan remains the only team to score more than 16 points against Kentucky so far this season; the Wildcats have allowed a combined five touchdowns in their last four games as they continue to tighten down their defensive front.

Kentucky hits the road to play Texas A&M in Week 6. Already inside the top 15, a win over the Aggies on the road could elevate them even further. Then we could be talking about an undefeated, Top 10 Kentucky football team. Crazier things have happened, but the Wildcats’ improbable 2018 start is pretty high on the list of surprises this season.
