Notre Dame Football: Overreactions to the big win over Stanford
Dexter Williams shined against the Cardinal defense
The senior running back Williams hasn’t been talked about much for the Fighting Irish this season. He is very talented but hasn’t played yet due to an unofficial suspension/leave of absence.
His first action of the season against Stanford was a great display of running the football. Williams ran it 21 times for 161 yards and the score. Every time he touched the ball he looked to get at least a handful of tough yards against a very talented front seven.
Tony Jones Jr.didn’t have a good game as he ran the ball 10 times 40 yards and it is safe to say the fighting Irish wouldn’t have walked out with a victory if Williams didn’t play as good as he I did.
Can Williams be the spark the running game needs? He has averaged over five yards per carry the last two seasons in light duty and could be the X-factor of this offense going forward.
The Fighting Irish face Virginia Tech next week and you can be sure Bud Foster will have some blitzes designed to slow down the Notre Dame rushing attack.
