1. Washington could do this every week

In a blowout like this, there’s really only so much to be taken. It was never really a close game, and most of the second half was essentially garbage time. That means that the takes to be had are generally large, overarching ones, and this is the largest of them all. It spans the whole season to this point, and will continue to loom over Washington for the rest of this season.

When a team that had struggled with being great, like Washington had, puts together a win like this over a ranked opponent, it makes you question everything they’ve done to this point. It makes you wonder if Washington would’ve beaten Auburn had Jake Browning stood strong in the pocket. It makes you wonder why Washington couldn’t put Arizona State away last week.

It also casts a shadow for the future. When Washington struggles against bad teams, which they will, we’ll look back to this game and wonder where that team went. We’ll look to great performances from both main running backs and wonder why they don’t see more touches. The problems for this team exist, but in games like this, they feel less significant.

That makes them much more baffling when they come back. Washington has no excuse. They should play like this every week for the rest of the season. Missing out on the Pac-12 championship, or even the playoff, only happens if Washington collapses. They control their destiny.
