Week 5 of the 2018 college football season is now behind us. Let’s look at the five biggest takeaways from an exciting week of close calls.
Week 5 didn’t have any major upsets, but there were a few close calls along the way that kept us glued to our streaming devices and TV’s. Clemson and Ohio State could have cause a cataclysmic shift in the College Football Playoff landscape if they lost to Syracuse and Penn State. Not that 4-1 Syracuse or undefeated Penn State are slouches.
The state of Florida had a bounce back week after rough 2017 campaigns. Miami beat down the North Carolina Tar Heels, Florida and FSU had close wins, and Central Florida has remained undefeated since the start of the 2017 season.
Along with Florida, the Pac-12 had a better week, even if Stanford lost. Oregon, Washington, Washington State, Arizona State and USC all kept themselves in the running for a Pac-12 Championship Game bid.
Of course the happenings around primetime were the biggest moments. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have proven they deserve at least a top-five ranking in the College Football Playoff. Ohio State kept its playoff situation alive and Stanford fell out of the picture.
Of course, the Alabama Crimson Tide dominated Louisiana Lafayette and Oklahoma beat Baylor by 30 points.
Let’s take a detailed look at the excitement from Week 5.
