Notre Dame football was undefeated yet struggling offensively in its first three games. Enter, Ian Book and the Irish offense is humming.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish started off the 2018 college football season with a big win over the Michigan Wolverines, causing many to think the Irish could contend for a spot in the playoff this year. But the following two games had even Irish fans thinking it would be another disappointing season. In their two games against Ball State and Vanderbilt, the Irish offense only averaged 23 points in their wins over each team.

In their game against Ball State the offense had over 414 yards, but quarterback Brandon Wimbush threw three interceptions keeping the Cardinals in the game. And against Vanderbilt, Wimbush didn’t throw any interceptions, but threw for just 122 yards, completing 13-of-22 passes. Wimbush was however able to pick up 84 yards and a touchdown on the ground, to keep the Commodores at bay.

Wimbush was having some success but was playing in consistent. He had one touchdown and 589 yards passing, all while completing just 55 percent of his passes. Something was missing and it was time for a change. That’s when head coach Brian Kelly gave the nod to Junior quarterback, Ian Book, as the starter for their game against Wake Forest. And In his first two games as starter, Book has led the Irish to big victories, including a 38-17 win over undefeated, and highly ranked, Stanford.

It has only been two games, but Ian Book is playing some of the best football in the nation. Book has some ground to make up, but here’s why he should be considered for the Heisman.
