5. Instant impact

As mentioned before, the Irish’s offense had been struggling to find consistency through the first quarter of the season, averaging just over 23 points per game and about 365 yards a game.

Since the switch to Ian Book took place, the Irish offense has accounted for 1,116 total yards and 94 points, both are more than what the offense accounted for in the first three games.

When Book was named starter, the Irish fans just wanted to find some kind of ground to root for their offense, instead of preparing for frustrating picks and anxiety-driven games.

What the Irish got is more than they expected but I’m sure they’re not complaining. Book looks to be the most talented quarterback to wear the gold helmet since Brady Quinn, surpassing a list of guys with names such as Jimmy Clausen and DeShone Kizer.

This kind of immediate impact on an offense is rare to find, all the more reason Book should be a Heisman candidate.
