5. Alan Bowman, Quarterback

Freshman starter Alan Bowman didn’t produce up to his usual standards, but West Virginia is by far the best defense he’s seen in his young career. When things were starting to get out of hand, though, Bowman led a touchdown drive that kept the Red Raiders focused.

Following an interception and two punts on their first three drives, Texas Tech looked like they were about to get blown out as the Mountaineers put up 21 quick points. Bowman finally got settled and completed 3-of-4 pass attempts, and he hooked up with wide receiver Antoine Wesley for a 40-yard score. The drive was four plays long and lasted only 57 seconds.

Their offensive rhythm continued on the following drive, as Bowman marched the team 76 yards in 14 plays to add three points. It wasn’t their usual quick drive, as it lasted nearly five and a half minutes, but it gave confidence to the young team and kept the Mountaineers’ offense on the sidelines.

Bowman finished 9-of-20 for 123 yards and a touchdown. He did thrown an early interception, but bounced back in a way that should give Tech and their fans confidence moving forward.
