4. Dakota Allen, Linebacker

Dakota Allen is producing at a much higher clip during his second stint in Lubbock, and the team is reaping the rewards. Although they failed to defeat the Mountaineers, the Texas Tech defense is much improved from years’ past and it showed Saturday.

For the second week in a row, the Red Raiders’ defense held their opponent to minimal efficiency in the second half. They completely shut out the Oklahoma State Cowboys from the second quarter on last week, and the Mountaineers didn’t score a single offensive point in the second half.

Allen, per ESPN’s stats, led the Red Raiders in total tackles Saturday with 12, including six solo stops. But it was his sack with around 10 minutes remaining that breathed life back into the stadium in Lubbock. It was a 3rd & 13 for WVU. Allen, and teammate Jordyn Brooks, pressured Will Grier and brought him down for an eight-yard loss, forcing a Mountaineer punt.

Upon getting the ball back, the Texas Tech offense only needed six plays to reach the endzone. Just like that Texas Tech pulled within a single score. It was 35-27, WVU.
