5. Kadarius Toney throws another touchdown pass

Florida crossed the endzone once against Mississippi State, a touchdown pass from wide receiver Kadarius Toney to fellow wideout Moral Stephens. Dan Mullen has always been a creative offensive mind and he’s not going to pack things up once the Gators get into the heart of conference play in October.

The offense is still a work in progress. How else do you explain the only touchdown of the night coming on a trick play against a defense that was gashed by Kentucky in their previous outing? For all the potential issues that Mullen has on his roster, the overall level of talent is more than sufficient. The key for Mullen is going to be finding ways to plug those talented players into the offense in ways that elevate the entire unit.

Toney is an athlete. He can run and catch, and apparently throw a pretty good ball as well. Defenses now have film of his double-pass, but they haven’t seen him take a reverse and pull up and throw deep. That’s just one of several different wrinkles Mullen could put into the offense to give it a spark. Toney’s first touchdown pass was fun and it might not be the last.
