5. He’s from Grayson High School

Clemson has grown close with Grayson High School in Loganville, Georgia. Recruiting at the school picked up steam when Clemson started recruiting Five-Star defensive end Robert Nkemdiche in the early 2010’s and even went as far to briefly land his commitment to their institution. Nkemdiche decommitted in November of 2012 and not long after his brother Denzel announced that Robert would commit to Ole Miss.

But this wasn’t the end for the Clemson relationship with Grayson High. Clemson’s picked up a transfer quarterback from Grayson by the name of Nick Schuessler who, although signed with Mississippi State, elected to join the Tigers in July of 2012 and never spent a full season with the Bulldogs. Clemson also landed two players that would go on to make NFL rosters in defensive back Ryan Carter and more notably running back Wayne Gallman.

Ryan Carter swapped positions multiple times while at Clemson going from cornerback to safety and finally settling back in at cornerback. Carter played in 860 snaps for the Tigers and started in 15 of his total 41 game appearances. After a four year tenure with Clemson, Carter went undrafted in the 2018 NFL Draft but was signed by the Buffalo Bills.

Wayne Gallman was a part of a four-way battle for the starting job in 2014 after his redshirt season with Zac Brooks, CJ Davidson, and current Clemson back Adam Choice. After an injury to Choice, Gallman took over and never let go during his three-year career. Gallman finished as a top-five rusher all-time for Clemson in his 37 starts and broke Raymond Priester‘s single-season rushing record in 2015 with 1,527 yards.

Chase Brice seems to have already made himself memorable early on in his career and proved that even though he is a backup he’s got the talent to make a difference when he steps onto the field.
