With Kirby Smart considering a two-quarterback platoon against Vanderbilt, what do Justin Fields and Jake Fromm each bring to the table for Georgia?

Georgia has played like the defending SEC champion that they are to begin 2018, especially on offense. The Bulldogs rank in the top 20 nationally in scoring, as they average more than 43 points per game against a schedule that has so far included three conference opponents.

But the best teams are always looking to build from good to great to transcendent, and the Bulldogs are no exception. Throughout the year, the team has relied on incumbent starter Jake Fromm while also trying to get Justin Fields into the action. Smart has talked about how there is no clear-cut process for deciding which of the two gets the ball in which situations.

Instead, offensive coordinator Jim Chaney and quarterbacks coach James Coley have been fairly fluid in how they have opted to use the pair so far in 2018. The Tennessee game at the end of September could be instructive for how they look to use the tandem moving forward.

Smart, Chaney, and Coley exploited situational advantages by rotating Fromm and Fields freely throughout the 38-12 win over the Volunteers. There were even several drives where both quarterbacks took snaps for the Bulldogs. That is likely to become the norm, beginning with this week’s contest against Vanderbilt.

Let’s look a little further at Fromm and Fields and what each brings to the table for Smart and crew.
