Miami Football: 5 Bold Predictions for ‘Canes in October 2018
Miami football is set to play three games in the month of October. Can the Hurricanes extend their winning streak and pick up a few big ACC wins?
The Miami Hurricanes are 4-1 and ranked 17th in the country per the AP and 18th per the S&P+ analytics system. After a rocky start against the LSU Tigers in week 1, Miami has found its footing behind defensive tackle Gerald Willis III and new starting quarterback N’Kosi Perry. The ‘Canes are primed for a big month of October that will set the wheels in motion on another run for the ACC Coastal division crown.
Under Mark Richt, Miami has found a renaissance but hasn’t quite been able to state “we back” as many pundits and fans had hoped riding into year three. The Hurricanes will have to run the table, win the ACC Championship Game, and hope that one of the top tier programs in the Big 12, Big Ten and SEC stumble in order to get back into the College Football Playoff picture in front of teams like Alabama, Georgia, Clemson, Ohio State, Notre Dame and even Washington.
If anyone has the firepower on offense and the toughness on defense to knock off the Clemson Tigers, it’s Miami. The ‘Canes are led on offense by hard running backs like Travis Homer and Deejay Dallas, and the dynamic wide receiver play of Jeff Thomas, Lawrence Cager and the emerging Mike Harley. On defense the Hurricanes start and stop with the front seven led by Willis, defensive end Joe Jackson, and linebacker Shaquille Quarterman.
