3. Scottie Phillips reaches 1,000 yards on the ground

I’ll come right out and say it: I’m a big fan of Scottie Phillips and his game. He’s a shifty running back, standing just 5-foot-9 and weighing in at about 200 pounds, and he has impressive breakaway speed. He’s becoming one of the top backs in the SEC and he’s played in the FBS for just one season after going the JUCO route.

Phillips has taken hold of the backfield duties in Oxford, and no one is complaining. Through five games, he’s rushed for 563 yards and six touchdowns on 7.2 yards per carry. He has a 200-yard game and two 100-yard games under his belt to go along with a 96-yard showing.

To say this kid is consistent would be an understatement. He’s not the biggest guy and he’s very difficult to bring down in open space. For that reason, he’s going to be a nightmare for defenses in October.

Already at 563 yards, Phillips just needs to dominate against inferior foes like he’s capable of doing and he’ll reach the 1,000-yard mark on the season. He may struggle a bit against Auburn, but he may reach 200 yards against both ULM and Arkansas.
