Notre Dame football has been trending upwards since the emergence of Ian Book, providing hope that he can lead the Irish to an undefeated October.

Notre Dame will only play three games in the month of October as their bye week falls between matchups with Pitt and Navy. The Irish will embark on their first road trip of the month this weekend against No. 24 Virginia Tech, a game with huge implications concerning the Irish’s playoff hopes.

With Ian Book now under center, offensive coordinator Chip Long has the ability to deploy an offense similar to the attack he led in Memphis. Former starting quarterback Brandon Wimbush’s explosiveness made scheming virtually obsolete last season, but his 2.8 YPC wasn’t cutting it in 2018.

Now, Notre Dame is in line to face one of the least threatening schedules of any top 10 team. Virginia Tech could possibly be the last ranked team the Irish face all season, leaving little excuse for failure. Here are five bold predictions for the Irish as they look to make it through the month of October unscathed.
