3. Dru Brown steals the show

The fact that Gundy hasn’t even given extended looks to another quarterback in a meaningful game beyond senior Taylor Cornelius is mind-boggling. Yes, Cornelius has posted some nice numbers overall to start the season. No, most of those numbers didn’t come against quality opposition.

Oklahoma State did give some work to sophomore quarterback Keondre Wudtee in the first two weeks. But both of those games wound up being blowouts against Missouri State and South Alabama. Wudtee has not played since, even in the convincing win over the Jayhawks in Week 5.

The next man up for the Pokes if Cornelius continues to struggle in big games should be the senior former grad transfer from the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors in Dru Brown. During his time with Hawaii, Brown racked up more than 5,000 passing yards and 37 touchdowns with just 15 interceptions.

Gundy might be trying to redshirt both Brown and the talented true freshman dual-threat Spencer Sanders. It doesn’t make too much sense for Gundy to redshirt both quarterbacks with Cornelius having some trouble keeping pace with Texas Tech. Usually, giving at least one of those two quarterbacks an opportunity is warranted.
