Brock Purdy, who was recruited by Alabama and Nick Saban, led Iowa State football to a 48-42 victory over Oklahoma State Saturday.

Purdy replaced Zeb Noland and shined in his first action of the season, going 18-for-23 for 318 yards with four touchdowns. The freshman, though, provided something the Cowboys were not anticipating, as his dual-threat ability led to a team-high 84 yards and another score.

Iowa State was playing without injured star David Montgomery, who made the trip but did not suit up.

Tarique Milton, a freshman from Florida who had just 10 catches and 65 yards entering the day, caught four passes for 98 yards and a score.

It was a key victory for the Cyclones and head coach Matt Campbell, who were just 1-3 entering the day. Last year, Iowa State stunned Oklahoma in Norman, and the return to Oklahoma was a good one, with Stillwater being home to the upset this time around.

The Cowboys, one of the top offenses in the Big 12 for years, was out-gained by Iowa State, 465-415.

Here are three takeaways from the win by the Cyclones over Oklahoma State Saturday:
