Michigan Football: Wolverines post sluggish win over Maryland

Michigan football struggled to pull away from a feisty Maryland team in Week 6, prompting more concerns about the Wolverines’ offense.

After narrowly edging Northwestern in Week 5, Michigan got off to another slow start against Maryland. The Wolverines were kept out of the endzone in the first quarter, gaining a sliver of momentum with back-to-back touchdown drives to take a 17-7 lead into halftime.

Michigan walked away with their fifth straight win after the dust had settled. Sitting at 5-1 after the first six weeks of the season, the Wolverines seem to be in doing well. A closer examination of their games might lead to the opposite conclusion. Even with a pristine record, they’ve struggled against all of their above-average opponents. Michigan should be beating teams like Maryland 50-10, not entering the fourth quarter in a two-score game.

Maryland gave Michigan a fight, but ultimately wasn’t able to string together enough offense to give the Wolverines much of a reason to worry. Fortunately, they have a date with Rutgers in Week 7 to get back on the right track.
