No. 8 Auburn loses its second game of the year in a road contest against fellow SEC foe, Mississippi State football. What’d we learn?

Ten years ago, Saturday 13, 2008, the Auburn versus Mississippi State game ended famously in a score of, 3-2. In that game, Auburn had 12 penalties, three turnovers, and two missed field goals. Mississippi had only six first downs the entire game.

This year’s game was also low scoring, however not as dramatically.

Auburn’s offense had been struggling in previous games. For example, in Week 4 against Arkansas(who lost to North Texas), Auburn was only able to produce 225 yards of offense — at home. Over the previous two games, the Tigers were only averaging 2.6 yards per carry.

Against Mississippi State, Auburn did much better running the ball, however still struggles to convert on third down.

Prior to the game, yours truly predicted an upset by the Bulldogs. The predicted score was 17-14. The final score was 23-9, in favor of Mississippi State. However, there was a lot more to learn about this game.
