2019 NFL Mock Draft: Projecting the first round after Week 6
Is it crazy to think Jon Gruden will draft the heir apparent to Derek Carr? Gruden has made a lot of boneheaded moves as Raiders head coach. They currently have the oldest roster in the league and traded away a once in a generation talent in Khalil Mack to the bears for a pair of first rounders.
Why would the team move on from Carr so soon? The first issue is the salary cap. If Gruden is smart he will cut Derek Carr before the third day of the official start to the 2019 season. This will save the Raiders $19.9 million in cap space, and only cost $7.5 Million in dead money.
Carr hasn’t played up to his contract status and Justin Herbert can come in and make an immediate impact on the Raiders offense.
The Oregon Duck quarterback has already thrown 15 passes this season, and the dual-threat quarterback is a sneaky candidate to enter the Heisman discussion if he can lead the Ducks to a Pac-12 title run.
