The battle for the 2018 Heisman Trophy is just heating up as some top contenders are beginning to emerge and solidify themselves.

The 2018 Heisman Trophy race is shaping up to be very quarterback heavy as we hit the midway point of the season. The familiar faces continued their hot play to stay near the top, but a few running backs could break ground over the next couple of weeks.

The Heisman race had it’s eye on the Red River this weekend and Oklahoma’s upset loss could spell doom for the Big12 getting into the college football playoff. However, their star quarterback did not play a horrible game and put up one of his best performances of his college career. Before we get into the top five let’s take a look at our honorable mentions this week.

After putting up to pedestrian games against BYU and Iowa where he averaged 25 carries and 115 yards per game, Jonathan Taylor made easy work of the Cornhuskers this weekend. He ran the ball 24 times for 221 yards and three scores. If he can find the end zone consistently he could see himself back in the top five.

After starting the season off really slowly Travis Etienne has become one of the most consistent, dominant running backs in the country. He has scored at least one touchdown every game this season, and has rushed for at least 160 yards and three touchdowns in Clemson’s last two wins. He single-handedly helped the Tigers avoid being upset by Syracuse two weeks ago and after the bye week should continue his dominant run.

Now that we’ve gone over our honorable mentions take a look at our top five 2018 Heisman Trophy power rankings for Week 6.
