Saturday 12:00-3:00

I really can’t, in good conscience, recommend a single game from this noon slate. Every single one of the games starting at noon is dreadful, and save for maybe Akron-Buffalo, there’s absolutely no watchable football here. I’ll instead use this space to complain about the fact that there are at least seven watchable games at 3:30, including four awesome games, and maybe four watchable games in primetime. The best football of the day is all happening at 3:30.

That’s just silly. It’s silly for so much great football to be happening at one time. I know that it isn’t up to the NCAA, but a national scheduling committee would be so much obviously better than the current system of leaving decisions up to schools and TV networks. It’s a dumb way to do things, and it results in awful slates like this noon one. If the NCAA wants to make college sports a business (they do, just without paying their most important employees), they should at least run it correctly.

Pitt at Notre Dame, 2:30 p.m. EST, NBC

I don’t have a ton to say about this game, because frankly, there’s no logical reason to watch it. Notre Dame is heavily favored because they’re good, and Pitt isn’t. Notre Dame should win this game handily. Their offense is operating at a high level, their defense is awesome, and Pitt is, well, trash. But Pitt is going to win this game, and will not be explaining that further.

One sentence sell: Brian Kelly will turn a brand new shade of purple as his team gets knocked out of the playoff race by Pat Narduzzi’s island of misfit athletes.
