TCU football hosts Texas Tech with their Big 12 Title aspirations hanging in the balance. Can the Horned Frogs prevail on Thursday night?

The Horned Frogs of TCU and the Red Raiders of Texas Tech meet up in a game that, in theory, has big implications in the Big 12 race.

Realistically, the Big 12 is all about Oklahoma and Texas right now. There isn’t room for either of these teams in that conversation. As it stands, each of these teams already has two losses. In that regard, yes a loss here would knock them clean out of any race for the Big 12 title. This will be a game about who can figure out their quarterback issue first and which defense comes to play on Thursday night- not that Texas Tech really seems to have one of those to speak of.

Keys to Victory

For Texas Tech, the key will be to play defense. That, of course, is easier said than done. Texas Tech hasn’t been able to stop a nosebleed, much less a strong opposing offense. Will the same be true about TCU? If they can force turnovers against a team that struggles to take care of the ball and has a currently injured quarterback, the Red Raiders may have a chance in this one.

Of course, they’d have to settle on a quarterback themselves first. I don’t think I have ever seen a three quarterback system work well for anybody.

For TCU, they need to get back to playing winning football. Recently, it seems to me that the Horned Frogs tend to play to avoid losing big instead of playing to win. That will get them nowhere against Kliff Kingsbury and this scrappy Texas Tech team. Of course, there is no Patrick Mahomes in this one, so the Horned Frogs can take solace in that at least.

Prediction

This has TCU win written all over it. However, don’t think that Texas Tech will simply roll over and let the Horned Frogs win. They will fight tooth and nail, exhausting every option they have in every position they have depth at. We will likely see all three quarterbacks for Tech, which may confuse the TCU defense a bit, but not enough for the Red Raiders to pull out a win.

Final Score: TCU 28, Texas Tech 17
