TCU Football: 3 takeaways from shocking loss to Texas Tech
By Shelbie Warr
1. TCU couldn’t get out of their own way in this one.
TCU head coach Gary Patterson has stressed this over and over this season and it hasn’t gotten any better- the Horned Frogs cannot seem to get out of their own way as they pile on penalty after penalty.
Against Tech, they had eight penalties for 63 yards. That is less than the 12-for-89 that Tech wrapped up, but the Red Raiders were able to use a strong defensive showing to make up for those shortcomings. For TCU, every time a flag was thrown it would seem as if the drive would stop in its tracks and all hope was lost in moving the ball downfield. Not a good look for Gary Patterson’s team, that is for sure.
Even worse, TCU plays Oklahoma in a week. Kyler Murray and company will make you pay for mistakes like that. If TCU can’t get out of their own way against a smaller Big 12 competitor, then they are in for a rude awakening against Oklahoma, perhaps even worse than the one that the Longhorns gave them a few weeks ago.
Simply put, TCU has a long way to go to get back to the place they were a few years ago as they fought for a playoff spot with Baylor- man was that a fun time. Good luck Horned Frogs, you are going to need it.
