Auburn Football: 3 Takeaways from shocking loss vs. Tennessee in Week 7
By Shelbie Warr
Auburn football was steamrolled by Mississippi State a week ago. Instead of a big bounce back win, it was bested by a scrappy Tennessee Volunteers team.
This was a game that everyone, myself included, counted the Volunteers out of this game before the ball was even kicked off. However, the only group that didn’t count them out was themselves and as a result, the Volunteers leave with a conference win for the first time since 2016.
On one side, we saw a Tennessee team that may be finally putting it all together. On the other, we saw an Auburn team who is doing their best to recreate their SEC West championship from a year ago. That attempt isn’t going as well as they hoped it would.
Let’s talk takeaways, shall we?
3. This Auburn team is going to struggle down the stretch.
Today, the Auburn Tigers struggled to contain an offense that has consistently been at the bottom of the SEC. That isn’t exactly something to be happy with with the schedule the Tigers have upcoming. Let’s break down their schedule real quick.
- Oct. 20 @ Ole Miss
- Nov. 3 vs. Texas A&M
- Nov. 10 @ Georgia
- Nov. 17 vs. Liberty
- Nov. 24 @ Alabama
That is quite the gauntlet, excluding Liberty and maybe Ole MIss. The Rebels have a high powered offense that could very easily run over the Auburn Tigers if they play like they did today against Tennessee.
The road team has traditionally won when the Tigers and the Aggies play, so if that tradition continues that could be an issue for the Tigers. We won’t discuss Liberty, but having go to Georgia and Alabama to end the season when both are making their push to impress the playoff committee is asking for trouble.
