Seven Top 25 team had byes in Week 7, but there were still plenty of upsets across the country. Here is how the next set of AP Top 25 rankings will look.

In a week that felt eerily similar to Week 7 last year, four teams in the top 10 of the AP Top 25 fell over the most recent slate of games. Beyond the stumbles from No. 2 Georgia, No. 6 West Virginia, No. 7 Washington, and No. 8 Penn State, three other Top 25 teams also fell on the weekend.

On top of that, seven Top 25 teams were on scheduled bye weeks in the second weekend of October. With more than a half-dozen teams sitting idle, it will be interesting to see if all seven manage to hold on to their position above the cut line of the poll after the exploits of teams itching to make their way into the list.

One team, Auburn, is almost certain to drop out after falling for a second straight week against an unranked opponent. The Tigers crumbled 30-24 against Tennessee, as Gus Malzahn’s play calls elicited concern and criticism from the War Eagle fan base. But a $32 million buyout probably means Malzahn is safe from roasting completely in the hot seat. Another team, Cincinnati, will likely fall out as well due solely to the fact that other teams came surging up on the Group of Five hopeful.

How will all of these variables impact AP voters’ ballots and the composition of the Top 25 when it is released on Sunday afternoon? Keep reading for our weekly projection of the AP Top 25 after the prime-time games went in the books in Week 7.
