Miami Football: 3 takeaways from ugly loss to Virginia in Week 7
Mark Richt and Miami football hit the road to take on Virginia in Week 7 and the Cavaliers put up a much bigger fight than the Hurricanes expected.
Rough game doesn’t even begin to describe what Miami suffered on Saturday on the road against the Virginia Cavaliers.
The Cavaliers showed hunger to pull off the upset, playing the Hurricanes tough all game long and forcing three turnovers from Miami quarterbacks. The Hurricanes just couldn’t get anything going on the offensive end even though N’Kosi Perry was expected to be the answer for this team.
Mark Richt is sent searching for answers just a couple of weeks after feeling good about his team’s placement in the rankings. The Hurricanes will likely fall out of playoff consideration and potentially even the ACC title race — for now.
What’d we learn from the Hurricanes’ ugly loss?
3. Turnover Chain lives on
Even though the Hurricanes came up on the wrong end of this one, they can take solace in the fact that the Turnover Chain is alive and well.
Not many teams can force turnovers in the fashion that Miami does, but it’s what the Hurricanes pride themselves on. That was evident against the Cavaliers as Virginia wasn’t able to do much offensively all game long.
The Hurricanes forced three turnovers, but it was just too bad as the offense wasn’t able to capitalize, turning the ball over three times as well.
Trajan Bandy was the star of the game (despite his game-ending penalty), picking off two passes and making life difficult for the Cavaliers’ offense while Sheldrick Redwine had one of his own.
The defense was surely not the problem in this one.
