West Virginia football could not escape their night game at Jack Trice Stadium with a win, falling to the Iowa State Cyclones for their first loss of the season.

The afternoon slate of games was supposed to feature the vast majority of the fireworks in Week 7. It did not disappoint as LSU upset Georgia, Michigan State upset Penn State and Oregon upset Washington. None of those results were nearly as shocking as what happened in Ames late Saturday night.

No. 6 West Virginia struck first on an 18-yard touchdown pass from Will Grier to David Sills, then it was all Iowa State. The Iowa State offense outscored the West Virginia offense 28-0 with the only points for the Mountaineers coming on a 72-yard return from a blocked Iowa State field goal.

One of the best offenses in the nation struggled to kick things into gear as the upset-minded Cyclones continued to stay one step ahead of the visitors from start to finish. For the second year in a row, Iowa State has knocked off a Top 10 opponent at home.

Here’s what we learned from the Cyclones’ latest major upset.
