Iowa State Football: 5 players who earned Blitz Stickers in West Virginia upset
By Dana Becker
5. Brock Purdy, Quarterback
Two weeks ago, many outside of those that follow recruiting, probably didn’t know who Brock Purdy even was. Now, he has a stranglehold on the starting quarterback job at Iowa State after leading the team to back-to-back upsets of Oklahoma State and West Virginia.
Purdy, who decided on attending college in Ames over Alabama and other programs, didn’t quite match his performance vs. Oklahoma State, but that’s because he didn’t need to. The true freshman finished with 254 yards passing and three touchdowns, adding 39 yards on the ground.
Against the Cowboys, Purdy went for 318 yards in the air with four scores, along with 89 yards rushing and another touchdown. The schedule will see Iowa State enjoy a bye week before taking on Texas Tech, Kansas and Baylor. With a 3-3 record overall and 2-2 mark in the conference, the Cyclones should have a great chance to qualify for another bowl under Purdy’s guidance.
