6. Biggest Playoff Threat – Texas Longhorns

We are sensing a pattern here. Coming into last weekend, it would have been West Virginia in this spot. But the Mountaineers had to go and screw things up, getting hammered by Iowa State. Now it is Texas who is in the driver seat for a potential playoff spot.

The Longhorns still have work to do. After a bye week, they have a road trip against struggling Oklahoma State followed by a home game against West Virginia. Texas’ final three games are at Texas Tech, home against Iowa State and at Kansas. Kansas should be a win, but the other four are definitely not guarantees.

The big thing for Texas is they control their own destiny for a spot the Big 12 championship game. They already got by one big hurdle in Oklahoma, but they may have to face the Sooners again for the title.

While it stands now no team from the Big 12 will represent the conference in the playoff, we all know how things change week to week in college football. In the last two weekends, seven teams in the top 10 have fell victim to upsets. Texas must not look ahead and just control what they can, which is their game. Let the chips fall as they may.
