It’s the midpoint of the 2018 college football season and time to hand out superlatives and awards. Here are the top teams and players at midseason.

A superlative is essentially an award or form of praise/recognition. Generally, these are meant to be positive comments towards an individual. In the case of college football, we will be handing out mid-season awards for the performance of a team or an individual up to this point. Let’s start with the mid-season Most Valuable Player.

MVP: Dwayne Haskins

The Most Valuable Player award is one of the most debated award given out across all sports. Does the award go to the best player on the best team? Or does the award go to the player who truly brings the most value to their team?

In this case, we are pretty successful in recognizing an individual who fits both descriptions. The Ohio State Buckeye’s quarterback, Dwayne Haskins, has been essential to the success of his team. Additionally, the Buckeyes are now the second best team in all of college football.

So that almost fits the “best player on the best team” scenario. But Haskins’ enormous value to his team is without question. Let’s look at some numbers. He has a completion percentage of 72.3 percent…which is absolutely unreal for being seven games into the season and having 242 pass attempts. Additionally, Haskins has thrown for 28 touchdowns and only four interceptions. Frankly, the Buckeyes don’t have much of a running game. So Haskins will be leaned upon even more heavily as the season goes on.
