The midpoint of the 2018 college football season is behind us. Here are three reasons to be excited about Week 8 of play.

After the chaos of Week 7 there aren’t a lot of Week 8 ranked versus ranked matchups. Week 6 was a mini rivalry week and Week 7 brought us a reshuffling of the top 10 but Week 8 only has a handful of opportunities for true excitement. Fans are going to have to look for diamonds in the rough or go out and enjoy the last few days of sunshine before a long autumn and winter.

On Thursday, Stanford heads to Arizona State in a battle of David Shaw versus Herm Edwards. On Friday night, Colorado at Boise State could make for a fun matchup but expect the Broncos to win convincingly over the Rams. The Oklahoma Sooners travel to Fort Worth to face the TCU Horned Frogs but TCU has fallen out of the top 25 in 2018. Ohio State faces Purdue in primetime but the Buckeyes should dominate the Boilermakers, even on the road.

There are three major matchups of the week 8 slate and one is a rivalry game. Michigan travels to Michigan State to face the Spartans.

MSU slipped back into the AP Top 25 after upsetting the Penn State Nittany Lions in Week 7. Michigan held on for a nice win over Wisconsin a week ago as well. Jim Harbaugh needs a win over Mark Dantonio to keep the Wolverines’ momentum alive. The hot Oregon Ducks head to Pullman to face the Washington State Cougars and the undefeated NC State Wolfpack head to Clemson, S.C., to face the Tigers.
