We are headed into Week 8 and ACC football contenders are starting to take shape. Do we have a new No. 2 after Week 7 action.

ACC football is headed into Week 8 with a few teams trying to make a case for the college football playoff. Some of the results were surprising, and it looks like there are only two teams left they have a legitimate shot at it.

The ACC must rely on Clemson and North Carolina State to get the conference into the playoff. The Hurricanes effectively played themselves out of it and the rest of the conference is now jockeying for bowl eligibility.

With a few teams off this week let’s take a look at our updated ACC Football rankings for Week 7.

Louisville finds themselves at the bottom of our rankings this week, after a 38-20 drubbing at the hands of Boston College. Bobby Petrino’s offense got off to a fast start, scoring 20 points in less than 10 minutes of game time between the end of the first and start of the second quarter. The Cardinals get a much-needed week off then face Wake Forest hoping to get their third win.

At this point, it would take a miracle five or six-game winning streak for Larry Fedora to keep his job. Although they played the Hokies close, North Carolina ultimately lost 22-19 at home. The Tar Heels have scored less than 20 points in each of their losses this season. The offense will need to work on getting the ball down the field, as Nathan Elliott threw for less than 150 yards. A trip to the Carrier Dome is up next and I doubt UNC gets win number two.

The Demon Deacons had a bye this week after their 60-point loss to Clemson. They travel to Tallahassee to face Florida State who also comes in well rested after a bye this week. It will be closer than people think but I still expect Florida State to come out with the victory.
