Week 7 of college football was full of bad losses. Another two undefeated teams are no longer perfect. But these were not the worst losses of the weekend.
The Georgia Bulldogs were the biggest giant to go down this weekend in college football. However, a loss to LSU in Baton Rouge does not qualify as a “bad loss”. Playing in the Tiger’s stadium, against a, now ranked, No. 5 LSU team is hard no matter how good you are. Even Alabama or Ohio State would have had a tough game in this scenario. So even though the perfect season for Georgia is no longer, they do not make this week’s list.
However, another previously undefeated team does.
3. No. 6 West Virginia at Iowa State
The West Virginia Mountaineers stood alone at the top of the Big 12 prior to Week 7. After Oklahoma lost in the Red River Showdown in Week 6, West Virginia had a straight shot to the Big 12 Championship. But Iowa State had other plans for the Mountaineers.
Despite West Virginia star quarterback, Will Grier, completing 73 percent of his passes, he accumulated only 100 yards and one touchdown. Additionally, out of the four passes that were not complete by Grier, one of them was intercepted. But this turnover was not as costly as it may seem, given that the West Virginia lost by over two scores.
The game ended 14-30 in favor of Iowa State. The Cyclones came into the game with a 2-3 record. However, after dominating the time of possession and playing great defense, Iowa State proved to be the better team on this Saturday. Iowa State had 498 yards of offense and the Mountaineers gained only 152. Overall, it was a terrible performance by West Virginia.
