The Gamecocks move up a spot this week by virtue of what others around them did and the fight they showed against Texas A&M on Saturday night. If they could settle on a quarterback, preferably for them not one named Jake Bentley, this team could be special down the stretch.

For right now though, the Gamecocks are struggling to stay above water in a surprisingly competitive SEC East this season. They have already lost to Georgia and Kentucky and it could get worse for them in the second half of the season, especially against Florida and Clemson in the weeks to come.

The Gamecocks are on a bye this week, so they will have to count on chaos around them to move into the upper half of the conference after Week 8.

The Bulldogs, coming off a bye week, stay put at No. 7 in the SEC Power Rankings. Everyone was sure that the Bulldogs were back to what people expected them to be after their dominating win over Auburn, but now that the Tigers have lost to Tennessee that win doesn’t seem all that special anymore.

Is Nick Fitzgerald just having a bad year or is he suffering from a major setback post injury? If you didn’t know, Fitzgerald suffered quite the leg injury last Thanksgiving against Ole Miss. I am not convinced that he is anywhere close to being the same player that he was a season ago. The team isn’t the same either and that will show against LSU this week.
