Kentucky Football: Benny Snell Jr. saves day for Wildcats vs. Vanderbilt
Once again, Benny Snell Jr. has saved Kentucky football from a tough loss, this time in Week 8 against the Vanderbilt Commodores.
No one said winning in the SEC was going to be easy and Kentucky nearly found that out the hard way on Saturday night against Vanderbilt.
Despite playing at home, the Wildcats found themselves in a heated battle with the Commodores, tied 7-7 heading into the fourth quarter. Lynn Bowden kicked the scoring efforts for Kentucky in the first half, catching a touchdown pass from Terry Wilson — one of his three completions.
It was one of those games where the offense couldn’t do much of anything and Kentucky needed a spark. Where did the Wildcats turn? Nowhere else but Benny Snell Jr.
The talented running back came to the rescue yet again, scoring the game-winning touchdown in the fourth quarter and finishing with 169 yards on 32 carries. He’s what you’d call a workhorse and he continues to be the spark for the offense which has been up-and-down all season long.
Kentucky’s defense also stepped up in the 14-7 win over Vanderbilt, but you have to tip your cap to Snell who just always seems to find a way to come up with the big play. He is one of the most underrated running backs in America and it’s safe to say he’s slowly gaining some national recognition.
Kentucky remains on top of the SEC East standings, but a game against Georgia in two weeks could decide the division. As long as Snell continues his stellar play, anything is possible for these Wildcats.
