LSU football used a customarily suffocating defense to strangle the life out of Mississippi State on Saturday night in Baton Rouge.

The LSU Tigers rolled to a 19-3 victory on Saturday night in Baton Rouge, unveiling some slick new uniforms in the process.

LSU held Mississippi State to 260 yards of offense and just three points, keeping them out of the endzone for the whole game. The Tigers picked off Bulldogs quarterback Nick Fitzgerald four times in a dominating performance, answering the bell in what felt like a potential trap-game for LSU coming off of back-to-back physical contests with Florida and Georgia.

The LSU offense struggled, managing just 240 yards of offense against a tough Mississippi State front seven. The Tigers were held to just 2.5 yards-per-carry on the ground, and Joe Burrow was largely ineffective, but they did enough on a night where their defense flexed its muscles.

LSU moved to 7-1 overall and 4-1 in the SEC. The win sets up a showdown with Alabama in Baton Rouge in two weeks with the SEC West up for grabs.

For Mississippi State, the Bulldogs fall to 4-3 overall and 1-3 in the SEC. It’s a disappointing result for a team that came into the season expecting to make some noise in the SEC West.

Here are three takeaways from LSU’s win over Mississippi State.
