Ole Miss Football: A.J. Brown still 2019 NFL Draft’s top wide receiver
A rough stretch for Ole Miss football has not slowed down the team’s brightest star. Junior wide receiver A.J. Brown continues to impress.
There was a laundry list of negatives to take away from the dismal effort that Ole Miss football posted against another talented SEC West opponent. The Auburn Tigers came into the Oct. 20 matchup against the Rebels as an unranked team for the first time this season. Last week’s loss to the Tennessee Volunteers caused Auburn’s stock to plummet entering a key meeting with Ole Miss this week.
However, this outing did not go as planned for Ole Miss football or head coach Matt Luke since the team came out flat on the offensive side of the ball. Among the multitude of reasons why Ole Miss couldn’t get much going on offense, superstar junior wide receiver A.J. Brown was not one of them.
With fellow star Ole Miss wide receiver D.K. Metcalf out for the rest of the season, a lot more responsibility is set on the shoulders of Brown this year. The dwindling health of Ole Miss on both sides of the ball is held together by the presence of staples to the roster like Brown.
Brown is now roughly within 200 receiving yards for already posting 1,000 for the 2018 campaign. Entering the regular season, Brown was the most highly touted prospect at wide receiver for the 2019 NFL Draft. All he needed to do was shine alongside senior quarterback Jordan Ta’amu.
A bump in the road to an appearance in a quality bowl game for Ole Miss football hasn’t eluded Brown from posting huge numbers. He also now has five receiving touchdowns on the season, by posting one against Auburn. This was a very nice rebound performance for Brown after having somewhat of a down showing in last week’s win over the Arkansas Razorbacks.
Brown now has the opportunity to solidify that he’s, in fact, the top wide receiver prospect in the nation by rounding out the 2018 campaign in proper fashion. Finishing up with a few more solid showings and at least 1,000 receiving yards and seven or eight receiving touchdowns is all he needs to get to that point.
