Washington State football won their fourth straight game against the Oregon Ducks and now there’s a new top team in the Pac-12.

On the opening drive of the game, the No. 25 Washington State Cougars drove down the field for nearly five minutes, but failed to score after an interception was thrown by Gardner Minshew on the five-yard line.

However, once the No. 12 Oregon Ducks got the ball, the Washington State fans awoke. Oregon botched the first two snaps due to the volume of the crowd. The crowd grew even louder after the Cougars scored on a “swinging gate” run play. Washington State coach, Mike Leach, has been known to be a creative and unique personality in college football, as well as an unorthodox coach at times.

To say the Ducks had a bad first half would be an understatement. Oregon had their worst half of the year, explaining why they were down 27-0 at halftime. Mario Cristobal’s team finished the half with only 39 yards of total offense. This was the first time since 2013 that Oregon has been shutout in the first half.

The third quarter was a completely different story. Oregon scored on all three possessions, while the Cougars were totally unproductive. The Ducks scored 17 points in the third quarter and headed into the fourth with all of the momentum.

The Cougars were able to hold them off and the final score read, Washington State 34 – Oregon 20. The Ducks are now 5-2 on the season, and the Cougars are on top of the Pac-12 at 6-1.

Here are three big things takeaways from Washington State’s huge win.
